How To Stay Safe When Traveling Alone

Do you love a good road trip? Do you enjoy stopping at all of the historical sites and eating at local restaurants? Whether you’re exploring your area or heading across the country, you want to make sure that you stay safe when you’re traveling alone. You don’t need to constantly be worried about something happening when you follow these safety tips.

Choose Safe Lodgings

When traveling, you might be looking for ways to save money, but choosing a cheap place to stay might not be the wisest choice. Choose a popular, well-used hotel that has good ratings. If possible, don’t stay on any floors where someone might have easy access to your window. Additionally, when checking in, ask for a room close to the elevator or above the concierge desk. When you’re in your room, lock your door and don’t answer it if you aren’t expecting someone. It is also a good idea to keep a door security bar, or some other kind of extra security device, in your car when you travel.

Bring Protection

No matter who you are, you want to have a way to protect yourself when you’re traveling. You could choose pepper spray that comes in a canister that you keep on your keyring, or perhaps a taser that you keep in your bag is more your speed. If you choose to have a firearm, ensure that you look at the laws of the state that you will be visiting and have proper ways to carry the gun. There are concealed carry options for women that are made specifically to fit your body and won’t cause extra bulk.

Stay Aware

When out exploring new places on your adventure, don’t spend your time buried in your phone or map of the area. Be aware of who and what is around you. Make direct eye contact with everyone you pass. Predators look for people who are distracted to prey on. If you look at the predator, they will be less likely to choose to attack you because you could have a better chance at later identifying them.

If you want to take a shortcut somewhere, make sure there are other people around. Never take a side street or alleyway where you will be alone. Additionally, if you meet new people, never tell them where you are staying or how long you will be in town. You never know what people could do with that information.
