5 Steps To Prepare For Holiday Cooking

Steps To Prepare For Holiday Cooking

Preparing for holiday cooking is always exciting, but it can be a little overwhelming, too. The following steps can help the process go a little smoother.

Prepare Your Kitchen

Before you even think about diving into holiday cooking, you need to make sure your kitchen is ready for it. Clear out any clutter to ensure you have plenty of space. If you have any little ones coming over, secure your breakables so that there isn’t any unnecessary tension. Also, designate different areas of your kitchen for different tasks so that you can keep a good flow going.

Make A Guest List

It’s hard to properly prepare without a good headcount. Determine how many people are planning to come. Leave a little wiggle room in case extra folks decide to come at the last minute. However, don’t go too overboard, as there may be a few that don’t get to make it.

Make A Menu

Don’t forget to have a good menu plan going. This should include everything from snacks and appetizers to main dishes, sides, and desserts. Don’t forget to add in drinks and bread. When you’re done with the menu, make a comprehensive shopping list to keep you on track.

Share The Duties

Determine who on your guest list can be responsible for certain items. Not everyone has to cook, of course. Make some people responsible for picking up drinks, snacks, plates, utensils, and so on. Be sure that you delegate the most important tasks to those you know to be responsible.

Purchase Supplies

Preshopping is always important. Of course, you need to be sure you buy all of the ingredients you need, but it goes beyond that. You need to make sure you have all of the dishes and utensils necessary for your holiday feast. This includes baking dishes, pots, pans, knives, and even storage bowls for once your feast is done.
